Layered Die Cuts with First Frost

I’m having a ton of fun with the new First Frost bundle in the new Holiday catalog!! Today I want to share layered die cuts with First Frost cards that can be used for all occasion cards or Christmas cards.

How many times have you said that you do not need another stamp set that is all flowers?  I know I say it all of the time, and every time I cave and buy another.  I am here to tell you that yes, you need another “flower” stamp set.  This is a must have if you are a flower stamping lover like I am.  It’s stunning, it’s beautiful, it’s gorgeous–there are not enough words to describe this one.  But most off all, it’s easy to get great results!  It is called First Frost and you can find it on page 37 of the 2018 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.

Honestly, I would not call it a “holiday” stamp set.  It’s a great all around, year round, multi-occasion stamp set!!!  For my projects I just used the greeting stamps in the set, but you could easily use any greetings for a multitude of card sending occasions!

Layered Die Cuts with First Frost

First Frost stamp set and First Frost Bundle is perfect for all occasion cards.

Let’s Start with a Video

As I often do, let’s start with a video.  Pictures do not do these cards justice like you will see in the video.  I also share a bit about my “designing brain”, as I like to call it, showing you where I begin with stamp sets that have a lot of “parts & pieces” like this one.

If you are reading this in your email, the video might now show up, so just click below to go to YouTube and watch it.  While there, make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any of my videos!

How My Creative Brain Works

Whenever I get a new stamp set, especially one with a lot of pieces, I like to gather a small grouping of ink pads and coordinating cardstock.  From just those few basic supplies I will play around and make several different cards–all using the same things.  You will see as you look at all 4 of the cards that I made, they use the same cardstocks & inks, but look very different.  That is one of the great things about Stampin’ Up! stamp sets is how you can do so many different things with just a few supplies!

Here are the ink pads that I used.  Just these 3 for all 4 cards!

And here are the cardstocks that I used.

First Card I Made

Like I explained in the video, I stamped and cut out a whole bunch of all the different pieces in this stamp set.  Then I just started to arrange them on different backgrounds and in different groups.  This is the first card I made. The background is embossed using the TIN TILE embossing folder.  Oh my, another soon to be favorite!!!!  love love love it!

Here is a look at when I was first putting all the pieces together.  I just started laying them down and used scotch tape to hold in place.

  1. I love the nested dies for the sentiment. Is this the only die set with that. I can’t identify another one in the catalog.

    Thanks

    • There are a few other die sets that “labels” for the words….check out Lilypad Lake on page 133, Petal Palette on page 119 (dies on page 218), and Stitched All Around on page 17. Is this what you are asking???

  2. That is not what I meant. With Frosted Bouquet thinlits, you showed a thin, thin die that cut a piece that nested inside the other die, so you could cut a contrasting piece to create a tiny border around when the smaller one was placed on top. It was for the words. I wondered if there are other die sets with this feature. I really like that. Thanks

  4. Hi Jackie, When will I be able to watch your fun fold triangle card? It didn’t show up with your original card and you had a message to say it would be sent soon.

  7. I haven’t ordered this bundle yet, but I certainly am going to now after seeing your video and samples. Thanks so much for the ideas. Beautiful! Too bad I didn’t see this until now because I won’t be able to get the DSP cardstock that goes with the set, but I think I can try to make my own using the stamps and glimmer spray.

  11. I am unable to cut paper diagonally because both my Fiskars & We R score boards have a ledge at the bottom. They cover the bottom of the cutter. I can’t line up the paper for a good cut. How can I correct this ? I love the fold.

    • I’m so sorry, I only use the Stampin’ Up! Paper trimmer and I’m not familiar with those other brands. Could you use a ruler and draw a line and cut with scissors?
