My Creative Head

I am often asked how I come up with all my ideas….  and I never really know how to answer that question.  So, I thought I would share a little bit with you about how I begin when I get a new stamp set.  I want to give you a little peak into my creative head!  So I took several pictures to tell you the story while I was playing with the COFFEE BREAK SUITE of products!

The number one most important thing…………

Oh, and wait…..IT’S SAGE WEENIE WEDNESDAY!!!!

Not sure what this is all about–CLICK HERE for last weeks SAGE WEENIE WEDNESDAY!

When I first get a new stamp set, I like to spend several hours getting to know it, to love it, and making lots of different projects.

When a stamp set has a coordinating pack of Designer Series Paper–that is where I always begin!  I grab the DSP and a few sheets of coordinating cardstock……  In this case, we have the COFFEE BREAK DSP and the colors that coordinate with it:  Soft Suede, Early Espresso (have to have that color when stamping coffee!), Garden Green, Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz.

Then I get out the same colors in ink pads….

Next I like to put all of the stamps onto blocks.  I want them all easy to grab!

And then, the fun begins….

With this set, since there are all different ways to make “CUPS OF COFFEE” I decided to first just do that.  I wasn’t trying to create anything specific–just lots of different cups of coffee….  Here are just some of them.

Once I was done just making a bunch of cups, it was time to make cards out of them.

I only had a 6″ x 6″ piece of each of the different pieces of DSP, so I tried to use them all–even scraps.  This is all I had left by the end of the day.

I ended up with 9 different cards, and still a few more cups to use. As you can see, I am not just a CREATE ONE AND DONE person.  My creative brain seems to function the best with just a few coordinating products and time to make lots of different things out of them.  I guess I don’t like to use a million different things on each card I made.

One of the beauties of Stampin’ Up! products is that they have coordinating products and you don’t have to buy a million different things to make several different cards.

I will eventually post all of these projects along with the recipe and instructions–so stay tuned.  Make sure you SUBSCRIBE to my blog so you don’t miss my posts when I share these fun cards!

OK–back to more creating–I have several coffee cups that need to go onto cards!

  1. Hobby demo here… I’m so glad I signed up for your blog posts. I carefully read every one, and print the instructions if included. As a retired teacher, I loved this description of your creative process. I worked with kids for years to get them to think about how they think, and here you are demonstrating that very concept. Wish I’d had this in my arsenal of tools at the time!!! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas and products. Think I’ll try this card today.

    • Thank you so much Beth for the kind words. I truly appreciate them and love to hear when I can inspire people. I always tell people you don’t have to be creative to make beautiful things–stamping is all about copying. It’s OK to copy. The more you stamp, the more you copy, the more you will become creative!
