Need to know how to form all the different embossing sandwiches for the different types of embossing folders we’ve had? I’ve got the complete embossing folder sandwich guide to make your life easier!

There is so much to love about the cutting & embossing machine. Today I have part 1 of my “mini” video series featuring the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss sandwiches and the various folder types. I will be back in a few days with part 2 that will cover all the die cutting features.
Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Sandwiches: Complete Guide
This machine is super easy to use and Stampin’ Up! has taken all the guess work out of how to make the “sandwich!”
Stampin’ Cut and Emboss sandwiches are easy to assemble no matter what type of embossing folder you have.

3 Types of Embossing Folders:
- 3D Folders
- Standard
- Dynamic
3D Embossing Folders
These are the bulk of what Stampin’ Up! has. When you look in the catalog, on pages 184-185, all of the ones in the lighter shade of green are 3D folders. To use these, here is what you will use for your “sandwich” with the new machine.

When you look at the Base Plate, #1, you will see the sandwich for the 3D Embossing Folders. First you need #1, then the folder with the card stock, then #4 on top.

Big Shot Users: When using the 3D Embossing Folders, you will want the platform, folder with card stock, then either the old “blue” embossing plate, or this new Specialty Plate. The Specialty Plate can be used in the Big Shot when using the 3D Embossing Folders.

- Feels Like Frost DSP: 5″ x 3 3/4″
- Whisper White: 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″
Standard Embossing Folders
These are the thinnest of all the folder types. When you look at the base, it shows you that you need #1 and two #3 plates.

In the catalog, there are only a few, and several indicate “MINI.” These will work in either machine–the standard size or the Mini Machine. What is important in determining the sandwich is the thickness of the folder.

Big Shot Users: This is the exact same “sandwich” as you use in the Big Shot. These #3 clear plates are the exact same cutting plates as for the Big Shot. You can purchase these and use in your Big Shot and use when you need new cutting plates!

Jackie, thank you so much for the great tutorials……whether they be on stamping, cutting or embossing, they are so helpful. This demo on the cutting machine was also helpful. I have a Big Shot & won’t be getting a new one until this one fails…….but, you gave me hints that I can use the plates & folders in that machine as well until later!! So many demonstrators will only sell, sell, sell!! Your cards are very attractive & great designs. Like you say, SIP, that is great advice for those of us who are just regular stampers & not demonstrators. Thank you again & keep up the great work. Wonderful cards!!
Thanks Karen! I’m glad you picked up some tips on this one. Have a stamp happy day!
