Coloring and Blending Tips Using Serene Garden

Today I am going to show you some coloring and blending tips using Serene Garden stamp set.  I think you might fall in love with this stamp set like I did!!!!

Have you seen the stamp set called Serene Garden on page 166 of the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog?  This is another stamp set that did not really grab my attention at first.  It was not one of the first ones I purchased, I had to think about it for awhile.  Silly me!!! This stamp set is FABULOUS and I love the “different look” of these images.

Let’s Start With A Video

Our video today will give you lots of tips for using the Stamparatus with the Serene Garden stamp set, as well as show you how to color quickly and easily with the Stampin’ Blends.

Coloring With Stampin’ Blends

Have you tried the Stampin’ Blends yet???  I was never a person who liked to color with markers.  Honestly, I hated coloring with markers!  But then….the world of coloring with alcohol markers was opened up to me and I LOVE TO COLOR!!!  Stampin’ Blends not only make coloring super easy, but they give you fabulous results.  Now we are talking!!!!  If you have not yet tried the Stampin’ Blends, I highly encourage you to buy a few colors and give them a try!!!  These are the ones that I used for my card today.

 Serene Garden Card

Let’s take a closer look at the main card I shared in the video.  This is a 4 1/4″ square card.  I love making square cards but I hate having to find envelopes for them and the fact that the post office makes you pay extra postage.  4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ to the rescue.  When you make a square card this size, you can put it in a regular envelop and pay just normal postage!!!!

Where did the Greetings Come From?

Since the Serene Garden stamp set did not have any greetings in it, I decided to combine with the Enjoy Life stamp set on page 58 of the catalog.  This stamp set is filled with awesome “words.”  Even if you don’t love the images, you will want this stamp set on your list just for the words!!!

Card Tips

  • When stamping the large image, I went off the card layer so I would NOT get the border line giving the stamp a different look
  • Flowers are stamped on scrap of Whisper White and watercolored using my Daffodil Delight ink pad and an AquaPainter.  Whisper White is NOT THE BEST for watercoloring, so I was real careful to not use a lot of water or to go over it very much
  • After the flowers were completely dry, I cut them out with the die and applied some Wink of Stella to give them a little shimmer
  • I also used greetings from the Enjoy Life stamp set for this card

Serene Garden Card #3 (Embossing With Dies!)

This is something new I have been trying out–sharing more than just ONE CARD per video or blog post.  When I stamp, I usually create several cards with the same supplies.  Same stamp set, same colors, etc….  This shows the versatility of our stamps.  So lately I have tried sharing several with you at one time.  Do you like that???  or is it too overwhelming??  I would love to hear what you think!  Leave me a comment by clicking below:

Back to the card……this one has a special feature.  Can you see the embossing on the top right corner?  I used the BIG SHOT EMBOSSING MATS to get this gorgeous texture on my card.  Make sure to watch the video for tips on embossing with your dies and using these embossing mats.

Card Tips

  • Since this card was watercolored, I used Shimmery White card stock.  This is the perfect cardstock for watercoloring
  • Make sure to stamp your image in either Stazon or the old Archival Black we used to carry when watercoloring
  • Watch video for tons of tips for embossing with your dies (too hard to explain!!!)
  • I tied the bow in the Baker’s Twine and adhere with a glue dot
  • “Sending Prayers” is from the Itty Bitty Greeting stamp set
