Have You Ever Tried Card Making With Stencils?

I have something fun to share today as we kick off the new Stampin’ Up! Fall 2023 Mini Catalog! We will be doing some card making with stencils; it is so fun and easy! I never thought this would be my favorite product in the new mini catalog, but I really think it is! That’s why it’s the first project I am sharing. It takes a little more time to make than my usual projects do… but it is so worth it!

The new Stampin’ Up! Fall Mini catalog goes live tomorrow (Sep. 6)… so you still have to wait a day to see it. But it is worth the wait! I hope I can get you excited for it today with my card making with stencils project, plus give a sneak peek at a few other upcoming projects using products in the mini.

In today’s video, I will teach you card making with stencils using the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks and Blending Brushes. We are going to start super simple, and then I will show you the progression of my card making from just basic stenciling, to adding a “little more” to create dimension and an amazing card. Lots of tips to share… are you ready? Lets get started…

Card Making With Stencils Video Tutorial

What do you think? Wasn’t that easy peasy and oh so fun! These stencils are a bit addicting. I could just sit and stencil away all day long! Let’s take a closer look at the cards:

3 different sunflower themed cards made using Stampin' Up! stencils

These are the three cards that I shared tips for in the video. We started with the very basic card making with stencils (top left) and just stenciled and added a greeting.

Then we progressed by adding a few “speckles” to add a little added dimension and texture.

And then my favorite…. embossing the layer with an embossing folder after all the stenciling definitely took the card to a whole new dimension!

Card Details & Measurements:

All three cards above use the same cardstock, inks, and layering measurements. So let’s just zoom in on the final card of the progression from simple to fabulous! What I love about card making with stencils is you can keep it super simple, or add a few more things to really step it up to a “wow” card.

And always make sure to make the inside of your cards pretty too! Oh, and the envelope – we don’t want to be mailing naked envelopes!

Measurements:

  • Crumb Cake card base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
  • Basic White: (outside and inside) 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Basic Black: (outside and inside) 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″

Make sure you watch the video for all the stenciling tips I have to share. For the main focal point layer on the card, I started with a piece of Basic White that was a quarter sheet of cardstock (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) and then cut it down after stenciling. It makes it easier to do the stenciling and to hold everything in place.

Colors Used for Stenciling: Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Crumb Cake, Old Olive.

  1. Hi Jackie
I have these stencils and I love them. I wish Stampin up made more layering stencils. I already made some cards with these. A mini slim card looks really cute too. Looking forward to your October retreat.
