Card Making 101, Class 10

In this video class, I (Jackie, an experienced card maker) teach Jesi (my daughter, a beginner card maker) about the different kinds of card making punches. We hope that if you’re also new to making cards you can learn alongside Jesi and build your knowledge and confidence as she does while creating beautiful handmade cards.

There’s a lot more information shared in the video class than what’s written below. So make sure to give it a watch to learn everything you need to know about punches for card making!

Different Punches For Card Making

Handmade cards, the Heartfelt Hexagon stamp set, and the Heartfelt Hexagon punch. Cards and products are a part of a project for the Card Making 101 series, Class 10: All About Punches For Card Making.

The first card making punches we talked about in the video class were coordinating punches. Stampin’ Up! refers to these as bundles when a stamp set comes with a coordinating punch. I love punches like this one pictured, Heartfelt Hexagon, which is a shape (also called Label & Tag punches). These are designed to be able to punch out the different sentiments in the stamp set – which is such a small detail that adds a lot of dimension to your card.

These types of punches are super versatile because you can find more images and sentiments from different stamp sets that will also fit the shape. Ideas are endless when you use punches for card making! CLICK HERE to see the full selection of Label & Tag Punches in the online store.

Two handmade cards designed with the Cutest Cows Bundle (stamp set and punch) as a part of a project to teach paper crafters about card making punches.

The second type of punches we talked about in the video is builder punches. Builder punches are also coordinating punches bundled with a stamp set. However, builder punches are going to be different images that you can punch out. CLICK HERE to see the full selection of Builder Punches available in the online store.

In the video class we showed you the two different ways you can create with builder punches. First, you can stamp your images and punch them out. Then depending on the image, like here with Cutest Cows, color them in. Or, you can punch out all the pieces with different colored cardstock and build it together – and then stamp a little face on it!

And finally, the third type of card making punches we talked about in the video class is stand alone punches. There are a few of these that you’ll find with the Labels & Tags Punches. The circle punch is one of my favorites because it’s such a quick & easy way to create a background or focal layer for you card.
