If you haven’t tried a hybrid embossing folder you are going to love this new concept and all the versatility. Emboss, cut, and create beautiful cards with this simple tutorial. And, it’s the first Christmas cards that I am sharing this year. We are using the Merriest Moments stamp set and the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder.
I am actually sharing some Christmas Cards and a video tutorial that I shared last year. These products are still available, so thought I would share the same cards and video tutorial, because it is all about learning how to use a Hybrid Embossing Folder. There are a few others of these, so what you learn in this post and video will apply to all of them!

Hybrid Embossing Folder Video Tutorial
There are so many different ways to use the Hybrid Embossing Folder with the dies. You will find that you can make beautiful Christmas Cards quite easily with these fabulous products. There are actually 3 different ways to use this hybrid embossing folder!
Make sure to watch the whole video so you don’t miss any of the many tips I share!
Wow–that was a lot because the hybrid embossing folder offers so many options! It is easier to use than it may appear and you can always review the video again (or rewind and pause where needed).
Hybrid Embossing Folder: Featured Card

In the video I started “BIG” with the first card; it has quite a few layers and is a bit over the top–but it’s NOT hard. It just has a few steps to make this card. Watch the video carefully and I show how easy it really is to make!

Measurements
- Card Base – Basic White: 4 1/4″ x 11″
- Basic White Embossed Layer (not cut): 4″ x 5 1/4″ (I started at 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, embossed, then trimmed down)
- Scrap for Embossed/Cut Layer – Basic White: 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
- Inside:
- Evening Evergreen: 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″
- Basic White: 5″ x 3 3/4″

The tricky part is figuring out in what order to do things. (make sure to watch the video for the best explanation)
- Use die to cut out “shape” (first picture above)
- Insert this piece into the embossing folder, making sure to line up
- Run through Cut & Emboss Machine – now this piece is cut and embossed! (middle picture above)

To complete the card, I also embossed the 4″ x 5 1/4″ layer (with no cutting) and adhere that to the card front. Then the piece that I cut & embossed was layered over it.
And finally, stamp the images on a scrap of Basic White and cut out with dies, and adhere.
I know that sounds like a lot, but the video will make it seem much easier.
Hybrid Embossing Folder Card Version 2
This card is very similar to the first, but a bit different. It does not have the “cut out/embossed” layer, so it has a few less steps.

Measurements
- Card Base – Basic White: 4 1/4″ x 11″ (or 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″)
- Basic White Embossed Layer (not cut): 3 3/4″ x 5″ (I started at 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, embossed, then trimmed down)
- Evening Evergreen: 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″

I kept this card really clean and used only the embossed layer. The embossed layer is popped up using dimensionals and then the greeting layer is down inside the “frame.” Another beautiful look with these products.

If you want to make beautiful Christmas Cards, you might just love these products. The ideas and options are endless. Make your cards as fancy as you want, or keep more simple and elegant.
Even More Options With The Hybrid Embossing Folders

The options for using the hybrid embossing folder are endless. The tricky part is sometimes knowing how to layer and the order to do things with the embossing folder and dies.
But….I have a “cheat sheet” for you. You can download this document where I show you the order to cut and emboss for all different layering options.

Thank you. This is a set that I overlooked, but wow, it is
wonderful. And thank you for the instructions on how to
use it, and the different combinations.
Happy I could help and provide some design options!
How helpful that is! I didn’t purchase this set, as I have several Christmas stamps already, but these are so gorgeous, and not hard at all.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful cards! I need the set.
If you want this one grab it soon; it’s available right now but I have a feeling it’s going to sell out.
Thank you for such great ideas for this wonderful new bundle. Beautiful cards!
I love sharing ideas with all of you. It is a really fun bundle!
Thanks, love the idea. I have a big shot. Will the specialty plate for 3D embossing work with my big shot? I don’t have a plate for the 3D embossing folders.
It should work–you will just have to figure out the proper sandwich layering for your machine.
Really like all the combinations possible with hybrid tools. They make an elegant card. I always enjoy your demos.

The hybrid embossing folder is really fun; glad you like these ideas!
This was one of the best video’s ever, I now have all I need to make all my special cards for next year. Thank you so much x
Well, this makes me smile! I’m so glad you’re on track with ideas you’d like to make!
Beautiful cards! What’s the secret for using the thick embossing folder with a Cuttlebug, and getting the detailed cuttings in the dies? Very frustrated, but not giving up. Thanks.
I’m so sorry you’re struggling–I know that’s frustrating! Unfortunately, I don’t have a Cuttlebug machine so I can’t give you specific advice but it’s trying a different ‘sandwich’ for your embossing machine is probably key. Have you seen this video? https://youtu.be/FRLuPG0nsjI — watch especially close at around the 12 minute mark and see if this helps you.
I didn’t get this last year but I think I will if it’s still available. So many different ways to use it. Very pretty Cards Jackie 😍
It is still available – just search for Merriest Frames! You’ll love it!
