I love taking a simple one layer card and adding dimension and fun with ink. These handmade cards turn out beautiful every time.
You don’t always need to layer and layer your cardstock to make your cards. Have you tried a ONE LAYER card? I promise you this is a creative card idea that you’ll be hooked on!

Keep it simple with these one layer cards, yet add some dimension with ink by using your Blending Brushes. It’s so easy and the results are great.
Simple One Layer Card | Video Tutorial
I love teaching this simple one layer card technique that doesn’t require a lot of supplies. The ink blending brushes do the heavy work for us. This is also sometimes called a masking technique but the focus today is on the fact that you don’t have to layer with a bunch of cardstock.
Simple One Layer Card Details
For some, this might seem a bit simplistic, but sometimes you just need to go for the quick and easy. But that doesn’t mean it has to be a boring card. Or at least, I don’t think these cards are boring. I also love that the supplies you need are so minimal.

Measurements
- Basic White THICK: 11″ x 4 1/4″ OR 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
That’s all!!!! Oh, and some scrap paper to make your mask for the sponging.

I cry with you, Jackie. SU doesn’t have many sets with inside/outside greetings. They are my favorite. All I add to the inside is just my name or maybe a short personal line. The inside greeting does all the work. I have the set, thankfully.
I’m glad you got the stamp set before it retires and are enjoying it!
I love your cards and your stamp set Happy Thoughts is definitely a keeper, good job Jackie.
Thanks so much, Carol!
Love your easy description on how to make these cards. I loved the first two until I saw those tulips – wow are they ever sharp. Now what was that color you used on the tulips? You were so right about SI not having a good pink before – that was the color I longed for the most. I am going to try this next!! By the way, I have Happy Thoughts and you are right again – one of the HAVE TO HAVE sets. I would love to see more sets with nothing but sayings. Now that we have the stamparatus, longer sayings are needed.
Dot, I honestly can’t remember if I used Flirty Flamingo or Polished Pink on that card. You could also try Melon Mambo. I’m glad you are enjoy the Happy Thoughts stamp set too!
Thank you Jackie for this WONDERFUL video! You are such an amazing teacher and skillful paper crafter! I really enjoyed learning about this technique and I’ll definitely try it soon!
Yes to (your) the Happy Thoughts stamp set…I was gifted this set from my daughter and I LOVE IT!
Thanks for being so wonderful!
Rosemarie
I’m glad you enjoy the cards and learning new techniques & ideas!
It always looks so simple…I need to work on my working area so I’m not so distracted
I understand that one! Have a stamp happy day!
Love these cards and love the Happy Thoughts set. Sad it’s retiring. I was so glad to see it when it came out because I find the sentiments in most of the SU sets to be a little bit too odd for my tastes, so it was such a delight to see your set of normal, traditional sayings in a beautiful font. I use it all the time. Thanks so much for that!!!!!
You make me smile; thanks! Have a stamp happy day!
Since I don’t do videos, I can keep using the Happy Thoughts stamp set any time I want to. It is one of my favorites and my go-to for the beautiful script and sentiments. I am so proud of you for designing this beautiful set and I love using it. Thanks Jackie for sharing your talent and videos with all your fans.

Thanks!

I like the square card more than the circle card. But I am also really impressed with the Fern and Tulip variations. Thanks so much for inspiring us to keep trying new things.

Loved watching this video, trying to beat deadline of June 30th when this stamp set is no longer available, just can not find it. I just found your videos over the last couple of days. When I am doing cardio rehab I watch and just love this idea. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Sandra, the Art Gallery stamp carried over to the annual catalog. The Happy Thoughts stamp retired and sold out but I do have a few of those stamp sets so if you’d like one please email me jackie@klompenstampers.com
