A Simple One Layer Card You Can Make That is Proven to Turn Out Beautiful

I love taking a simple one layer card and adding dimension and fun with ink. These handmade cards turn out beautiful every time.

You don’t always need to layer and layer your cardstock to make your cards. Have you tried a ONE LAYER card? I promise you this is a creative card idea that you’ll be hooked on!

For this simple one layers card I used a masking technique with different a circle die cut.

Keep it simple with these one layer cards, yet add some dimension with ink by using your Blending Brushes. It’s so easy and the results are great.

Simple One Layer Card | Video Tutorial

I love teaching this simple one layer card technique that doesn’t require a lot of supplies. The ink blending brushes do the heavy work for us. This is also sometimes called a masking technique but the focus today is on the fact that you don’t have to layer with a bunch of cardstock.

Simple One Layer Card Details

For some, this might seem a bit simplistic, but sometimes you just need to go for the quick and easy. But that doesn’t mean it has to be a boring card. Or at least, I don’t think these cards are boring. I also love that the supplies you need are so minimal.

Measurements

  • Basic White THICK: 11″ x 4 1/4″ OR 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″

That’s all!!!! Oh, and some scrap paper to make your mask for the sponging.

When you use your die cut shapes to create your mask you can then use your blending brushes to create an inked layer.

Supplies Used

If you’d like to see the complete list of all the supplies I used on this card, just click the button below. While checking them out, if you’d like to order any of them, it’s easy peasy to add to your shopping card. Don’t forget to use my HOST CODE to earn points towards a FREE STAMP SET!

Don’t forget to stamp the inside of your cards and the envelope!

On your simple one layer card you don't want to forget to also stamp the inside and your envelope too.

What do you think? Is this a technique you might try???

I used the Stampin' Up! Happy Thoughts greeting stamp set on these simple one layer cards.

  1. I cry with you, Jackie. SU doesn’t have many sets with inside/outside greetings. They are my favorite. All I add to the inside is just my name or maybe a short personal line. The inside greeting does all the work. I have the set, thankfully.

  2. Love your easy description on how to make these cards. I loved the first two until I saw those tulips – wow are they ever sharp. Now what was that color you used on the tulips? You were so right about SI not having a good pink before – that was the color I longed for the most. I am going to try this next!! By the way, I have Happy Thoughts and you are right again – one of the HAVE TO HAVE sets. I would love to see more sets with nothing but sayings. Now that we have the stamparatus, longer sayings are needed.

  4. Love these cards and love the Happy Thoughts set. Sad it’s retiring. I was so glad to see it when it came out because I find the sentiments in most of the SU sets to be a little bit too odd for my tastes, so it was such a delight to see your set of normal, traditional sayings in a beautiful font. I use it all the time. Thanks so much for that!!!!!
