Scrapbooking for beginners… or for anyone wanting to keep it simple! Last fall, when Stampin ‘ Up! launched their first Scrapbooking kits, I did not think I would create them. I am one of those who scrapbooked every little detail of my children’s lives (well, at least for their first 6-7 years) and then lost interest. It was hard, took time, and required SO MUCH STUFF. Basically, I was overwhelmed, stopped doing it, and never went back to it. That is when I turned solely to card making – quick, easy, and not overwhelming. But now… I have refound a love for scrapbooking by keeping it quick and easy with the Stampin’ Up! Scrapbooking kits!

How I Am Scrapbooking Differently
As I think back to scrapbooking in the past, several things stand out in my mind that have changed the way I am thinking of it today:
- I am not trying to scrapbook every single thing that happens every day! Way too overwhelming. I am only scrapbooking important events, travels, or activities.
- I don’t need a million pictures for each event, just a few good ones that help me create a memory to look back at later. Years ago, a Christmas trip would have resulted in 20 pages. Today I made just 4 (well, kinda 5 – keep reading to learn about Flip Flaps).
- Not everything has to be matchy-matchy! The above pictures were from our trip to California where there wasn’t snow. But it was winter and this was the kit I had.
- I don’t need all the things. Oh gosh, I remember a ton of different scissors, rulers, papers, stickers, and boxes and boxes of stuff! NO MORE – I am all about simply preserving the memory by using the scrapbooking kits. Each kit makes 6 pages, and when I am done if there are any leftovers I will give them away or get rid of them. No more saving all the stuff just in case.
I am sharing these tips and thoughts because, if you are like me and used to scrapbook but gave it up because of the overwhelm – I am here to tell you it doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and you can once again find joy in preserving those precious memories.
Snow Days Scrapbooking Kit
Each of the Stampin’ Up! Scrapbooking Workshop Kits come with 12″ x 12″ papers, Designer Series Papers, Stickers, Die-Cuts, and complete instructions. There are cutting diagrams to show you exactly how to cut everything and lay it out. I followed all the instructions to make the pages but went off-script with my photos. I added more photos to maximize what I could get on a page.
The first step was to cut everything and sort it into piles by pages. I didn’t take pictures of all those steps as I made these pages, but I did when I created the Autumn to Remember Kit. CLICK HERE for that blog post to see photos and tips for cutting and sorting. After I cut everything, I put the page base together. Then, I laid the photo placeholders on the pages as shown in the instructions to have a visual of the design of the pages. Since I was trying to maximize the number of photos, I didn’t follow the placements for these pages – but it did give me a good starting point.

My Finished Pages Using the Snow Days Scrapbooking Kit
Here are my four completed pages from the Snow Days Scrapbooking kit. The only extra product I used outside of the kit was colored cardstock to mat my photos. And instead of trying to journal everything, I found it easier to type and print out what I wanted to say.

Flip Flaps – A Great Way To Add More Photos
Flip Flaps are a way to extend your pages or add additional photos to a page. Currently, I only have the 8″ x 12″ size, but I will be getting more and making a post to show you how awesome they are – so stay tuned!

It is probably a little hard to see, but on the first photo, you will see that the right side looks a little bit different than when I shared the page above. The Flip Flap is an extra flap that adheres to the page protector on the right edge. It lays flat over the page, but you can open it up and extend it out. This allowed me to add eight more photos without adding several additional 12″ x 12″ pages.
Scrapbooking For Beginners – Different Kits Available
Stampin’ Up! will continuously release new kits, but as kits sell out they may be gone forever. So grab the ones you like when you see them – even if you don’t have the photos yet to use them with. These scrapbooking for beginners kits make it simple. I am a simple card maker, and now I can also say I am a simple scrapbooker. Maybe I need to add an additional tag line to my website – SCRAPBOOKING MADE SIMPLE!

Great encouragement to get back to scrapbooking! Thank you! I have looked for the flip flaps in your shop and didn’t see them. In fact, I can’t find them anywhere. When and where will they be available?
I think they sold out of the initial stock that they purchased from Close to My Heart – but my understanding is they will be available in the new scrapbooking brochure on January 7th.
