Card Making 201, Class 5
In this video class, I (Jackie, an experienced card maker) teach Jesi (my daughter, a beginner card maker) all about the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine and how to use it for embossing and die cutting. We hope that if you’re also a beginner card maker you can learn alongside Jesi and build your knowledge and confidence as she does.
There’s a lot more information shared in the video class than what’s written below. So make sure to give it a watch to learn everything you need to know to emboss and die cut confidently!
Embossing Folders
![Handmade card created in Card Making 201, Class 5: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, to show how to use the machine to emboss layers. The first use we talked about in the video class for the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine was for embossing folders! To use an embossing folder you put your cardstock inside the folder and position it for the fold edge to go through the machine first. Check the base plate for the sandwich order and run it through your machine – it’s that easy! It’s so simple and adds a lot of texture to your cards.
Do you recognize this card? Probably because it’s the same card layout that we made in Class 2, Basic Watercolor! But we stepped it up a little more with the embossed background and added the heat embossed sentiment that we learned in Class 4.
Card Measurements:
- Basic Beige Card Base: 4 1/4″ x 11″, score at 5 1/2″
- Basic Beige: 4″ x 5 1/4″
- Designer Series Paper: 1/2″ x 5 1/4″
- Granny Apple Green: 1 1/2″ x 5 1/4″
- Basic Black: 2 7/8″ x 4 1/8″
- Basic White: 2 3/4″ x 4″

Stand Alone Die Cuts
![Handmade cards created in Card Making 201, Class 5: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, to show how to use the machine to use stand alone dies to die cut shapes for focal layers and sentiments. Both cards have a stamped flower in pink.](https://i0.wp.com/klompenstampers.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/CM201-Cut-Emboss-Card3a.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1)
The next use we talked about in the video class from the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine was for stand alone die cuts, my favorites! These are great for die cutting focal layers and sentiments. Check the base plate for the sandwich order and run it through your machine. It’s such an easy way to cut out unique shapes for your cards.
Card Measurements:
- Basic Beige Card Base: 4 1/4″ x 11″, score at 5 1/2″
- Basic Beige: 4″ x 5 1/4″

Coordinating Die Cuts
![Handmade card created in Card Making 201, Class 5: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, to show how to use the machine to use coordinating die cuts with stamp sets. Card has an elegant floral design that was pieced together with different die cut pieces.](https://i0.wp.com/klompenstampers.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/CM201-Cut-Emboss-Card2a.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1)
Next in the video class we talked about Coordinating Die Cuts. These are dies that coordinate with stamp sets and cut out specific stamped images or cut shapes/images that coordinate to build a scene. You’ll see these in the online store referred to as Bundles, this means the stamp set and dies coordinate and are discounted if you buy them together. Check the base plate for the sandwich order and run it through your machine.
If you’re a beginner card maker, you may look at this card and think it’s a little over the top or too complicated. I promise you – it’s not as scary as it may look! Using coordinating dies is a fun way to be creative. I like to cut a bunch of different pieces and then mix, match, and move them around on my card until I create a stunning focal image.
TIP: Use a post-it note to hold the die cut so it doesn’t move when you run it through the Cut & Emboss Machine.
Card Measurements:
- Basic White Card Base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
- Basic White: 4″ x 5 1/4″

Hybrid Embossing Folders
![Handmade card created in Card Making 201, Class 5: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, to show how to use the machine with hybrid embossing folders. Card has three sand dollars as the focal image.](https://i0.wp.com/klompenstampers.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/CM201-Cut-Emboss-Card1a.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1)
The final use for the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine that we talked about in the video class was for Hybrid Embossing Folders. These are super awesome! They die cut and emboss at the same time, creating fun textured images for your cards. Check the base plate for the sandwich order and run it through your machine. I also recommend watching the video class to see how fun these are!
Card Measurements:
- Basic Beige Card Base: 4 1/4″ x 11″, score at 5 1/2″
- Early Espresso: 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
- Designer Series Paper: 3 3/4″ x 5″
