Be Inspired By This Card Making Resource Book

Here’s a short video (without Dave – sorry!) that I hope helps you dive in and find new ways to use your templates, and give you a sneak peek of how this card making resource book looks! I’m taking one template that we made early on in the series and showing you four different ideas designed from it, hoping to show you how versatile these card making templates are! So join me as I share some new card ideas designed with Spotlight on Nature that were created by following the measurements of Template #7.

Card Making Templates Inspiration: Spotlight on Nature

Here is card template #7 from the book. It’s simple, but meant to be a layout that helps get you started! From here, you can layer and embellish as much or as little as you want.

Template #7 Measurements:

  • Card Base: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″
  • DSP or Cardstock: (2) Pieces – 1″ x 5 1/4″
  • DSP or Cardstock: 1 3/4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Sentiment: Any shape or size

Now… let’s see how we can take this card making template and design four different cards from it with the stamp set Spotlight on Nature! (Yes, these four card ideas are also shared in the templates card making resource book to remind you of the different ways to view your templates.)

Card making template #7.
Card idea #1 designed with the Stampin' Up! Spotlight on Nature Bundle and the color Petunia Pop.
Coordinating inside of card and envelope for card idea #1.

Card idea #1 – I followed the template exactly using Designer Series Paper, then built a focal image to add on top. I used the Spotlight on Nature dies to cut the circle, stamped the flower, and heat embossed the sentiment.

And don’t forget to decorate the inside of the card and envelope to match! For this card, I stamped a piece of Basic White then layered it on Basic Black, and stamped the flap of the envelope.

Card idea #2 designed with the Stampin' Up! Spotlight on Nature Bundle and the color Petunia Pop.
Coordinating inside of card and envelope for card idea #2.

Card idea #2 – Instead of using DSP, I decided to stamp a background on cardstock. I stamped first and then cut to the template measurements. I built a small focal image using dies and heat embossing and placed it in the bottom corner.

For this card inside, I stamped a piece of Basic White but did not add another layer. And I stamped the front side of the envelope.

Card idea #3 designed with the Stampin' Up! Spotlight on Nature Bundle and the color Petunia Pop.
Coordinating inside of card and envelope for card idea #3.

Card idea #3 – I rotated the template to see it from a different angle! For this one, I decided to emboss cardstock for the background. I embossed a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of cardstock and then cut it down to the template measurements. This left me with an extra strip, so I added it to the inside of the card!

This inside is the same as card idea #1, but with that extra piece of embossed cardstock added. And then I embossed the envelope flap to coordinate!

Card idea #4 designed with the Stampin' Up! Spotlight on Nature Bundle and the color Petunia Pop.
Coordinating inside of card and envelope for card idea #4.

Card idea #4 – This one I tried to get extra creative with! I rotated the template horizontally but kept the DSP strips vertical. By doing this I did have to adjust the measurements. I kept the strips the same width as the template measurements and just cut 1″ off the length! So it is (2) pieces 1″ x 4 1/4″ and (1) piece 1 3/4″ x 4 1/4″.

Then for the inside, I stamped on Basic White and added a small DSP and Basic Black strip to the side. And added the same DSP to the envelope flap to coordinate.

  1. You are so talented at making cute cards! And I appreciate the fact that your videos are quick, usually only about 10 minutes long. (I do not have the patience to watch an hour video and then they are struggling to find their measurements and then they even mess up. So that means, I just messed up as I am crafting along. Ugh.)

And what a creative take from your one template, to come up with 4 variations. There are two that strike me as extra impressive – the one that is embossed (even the envelope flap) and the one that is stamped like DSP and cut out.

Bravo on a job well done and a video will timed!

    • We do not ship outside of the US. So yes, you can get the PDF download and get it printed! I know of many crafters who do this, purchase the digital book and then send it to a local office store/print shop to have it bound and printed for them.
