How to Add Texture to Your Handmade Cards

The more you can add texture to your handmade cards, the bigger “wow” factor it will have.  Today we are using the Tin Tile 3D Embossing folder to add amazing texture and fun to your cards. It really amps up the fun in not only card making technique but in creating those beautiful handmade cards!

These are actually cards I have a while back but I wanted to bring them back for those of you who are new to following me.  A few of the items used on the cards are now retired, but you can easily substitute other great card making supplies and embellishments.  The star of the cards–the Stampin’ Up! Country Home stamp set and the the ‘Tin File’ embossing folder is available.

Do you see all the texture here?  The Tin Tile Embossing folder is incredible!  I did not do any distressing or anything to the embossed cardstock on these 3 cards, I just wanted you to see the gorgeous texture.

Add Texture to Your Handmade Cards With Country Home Cards

All 3 of my cards today were colored using an aqua painter and my ink pads.  I love the watercolor look and it’s quick & easy! But make sure, if you are coloring with water, that you stamp your image in either Stazon or the old Archival Black that we used to carry.  You need an ink that will not smear when it gets wet.

Let’s take a look at the first card:

Card Recipe

• Gray Granite Card Base:  8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score and fold at 4 1/4″
• Basic Gray:  4″ x 5 1/4″
• Watercolor Paper
• Linen Thread

Like I said at the top, the image was stamped on the watercolor paper using the retired Archival Black (Stazon also works) and watercolored using my AquaPainter and ink pads.  Do you see the cotton?  For this I used the White Stampin’ Chalk Marker.  It actually smeared the black a bit, but I liked how it looked.

Card Recipe

• Cajun Crazy Card Base:  8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score & fold at 4 1/4″
• Galvanized Metallic Paper:  4″ x 5 1/4″ (this is no longer available, but the Brushed Metallic Cardstock would work great)
• Basic Black:  2 5/8″ x 3 7/8″ and 5/8″ x 2 3/4″
• Water Color Paper:  2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″

Again just some quick and easy watercoloring using my ink pads and AquaPainter.

Card Recipe

• Shaded Spruce Card Base:  8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
• Shaded Spruce:  5 1/4″ x 4″
• Crumb Cake:  3″ x 4 1/4″
• Watercolor Paper–cut with Layering Oval Framelits
• Scrap of Gray Ganite
• Linen Thread

Sorry, the CORRUGATE embossing folder used on this card is no longer available, but any other “textured” embossing would look great.
