This is an easy and fun card making background technique that I have been so excited to teach you! I call it the ‘smooshing’ technique. It’s a little bit messy, but not much! And you probably already have the supplies you need to make these backgrounds!
We are also using the Stamparatus today to ensure that our greeting is super dark and black! This is one of my favorite uses for the Stamparatus – stamping image several times to get it to look like you want. Make sure to check out the video for all my tips!

Fun & Easy Card Making Background Video Tutorial
All you need to make this easy card making background is a few Classic Ink Pad reinkers, some wax paper, and a water spritzing bottle. Check out today’s video tutorial for all my tips and how I finished my cards after I made the backgrounds.
I hope you give this a try. Remember, you have to experiment. Some colors look great together, while others just didn’t work. It’s only paper – if you don’t like it, throw it away and try some other color combinations!

What You Need for This Card Making Background
For my featured cards, to make my background I used these colors:
- Bermuda Bay
- Pool Party
- Granny Apple Green
You will also need:
- Wax Paper
- Water Spritzing Bottle (see supply list below)
I usually get 3 backgrounds out of each try. Make sure to have your card stock cut before you begin so you can make several.
Measurements & Supplies
All of these cards used the same basic supplies and measurements; I just used different ink refills.
MEASUREMENTS
- Shimmery White Card Stock: 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ (after making background, cut down to 4 1/2″ x 3 1/4″)
- Basic Black: 4 5/8″ x 3 3/8″
- Thick Basic White: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
